• Nestled where the River Danube meets the Sava, Belgrade is one of those cities that instil an air of mystery in those who visit. • In the southern region of Serbia and its undulating hills are the three most important and impressive monasteries in the country: the 13th century red-brick Žiča; the 11th century Studenica with its magnificent frescos and medieval style, and a UNESCO World Heritage site; and Sopoćani near Novi Pazar.
• The journey by train from Belgrade to Podgorica, capital city of Montenegro, is considered one of the most beautiful in the world. Don't be put off by the 10-hour trip: the captivating landscape that unfolds outside the window more than makes up for the length of the train ride.
• Winter-sports fans will find excellent conditions for skiing and snowboarding at the ski centres in Kopaonik.
