Travelling to Serbia

Beautiful cities, castles and imposing monasteries reveal an image of a proud land with a glorious history and rich traditions. Buy your tickets with Aegean Airlines and travel to a country that heals the wounds of the past with dignity.

Sights to visit in Serbia

From the vibrant urban centres to the bucolic countryside, Serbia is an ideal destination for a holiday or a city break.

  • Nestled where the River Danube meets the Sava, Belgrade is one of those cities that instil an air of mystery in those who visit. Having recovered a large part of its former grandeur, the Serbian capital charms with its impressive buildings and picturesque lanes winding through the Old City. Another must is a stroll around Kalemegdan and the famous Belgrade fortress, where you can enjoy its marvellous gardens and a spectacular view of the city. A stop at the church of Saint Sava is essential. This is the largest Orthodox church in the world, and holds 10,000 people.
  • Just 69 km from Belgrade, magnificent Novi Sad will win you over with its Baroque and Rococo architecture, charming lanes, spacious square and romantic promenade along the Danube. In fact, in summer, you can see many people diving into the river. It is worth visiting the imposing Petrovaradin, the largest fortress in Europe.
  • Subotica is an art nouveau gem located 175 km north of Belgrade, at the border with Hungary. Once an important urban centre of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, today it stands out because of its fabled buildings, wide pavements and luxurious gardens. Explore the city by bicycle, a mode of transport that is particularly popular with its residents.

Discovering Serbia

Serbia is a safe and hospitable country that has been gaining ground as a tourist destination in recent years.

  • Enjoy a unique panoramic view of almost all of northern Serbia from the top of verdant Avala Mountain, just 16 km south of Belgrade. You can also see the TV Tower there, which is the highest building in the Balkans at 202 m. It was destroyed by bombing in 1999 but was rebuilt and reopened to the public in 2010.
  • In the southern region of Serbia and its undulating hills are the three most important and impressive monasteries in the country: the 13th century red-brick Žiča; the 11th century Studenica with its magnificent frescos and medieval style, and a UNESCO World Heritage site; and Sopoćani near Novi Pazar.
  • The journey by train from Belgrade to Podgorica, capital city of Montenegro, is considered one of the most beautiful in the world. Don't be put off by the 10-hour trip: the captivating landscape that unfolds outside the window more than makes up for the length of the train ride.
  • Winter-sports fans will find excellent conditions for skiing and snowboarding at the ski centres in Kopaonik.

With is mild climate, Serbia is an ideal destination all year round. But a visit in August would be particularly interesting, as you could attend the largest brass instrument festival in the world, which takes place in the village of Guca. Book your tickets with Aegean Airlines and get to know the temperament of the Balkan culture.
