Travelling to Romania

Known for vast Transylvania, the craggy Carpathians and for the violent overthrow of a dictatorship, modern Romania possesses a charm that challenges any preconceptions. Book your tickets with Aegean Airlines and discover a country that is steadily rising through the ranks of tourist destinations.

Sights to visit in Romania

With its beautiful cities rediscovering their grandeur and an incomparable natural landscape, Romania promises exciting experiences.

  • Built along the valleys that extend between the Carpathian foothills and the Danube River, Bucharest was founded in the 14th century at the site of an old fort. The Romanian capital will win you over with its elegant buildings, its verdant perennial parks, its night life and stylish neighbourhoods. Particularly impressive is the Palace of the Parliament, formerly known as the "People's Palace". This is the second-largest building in the world, a controversial giant with 3,100 rooms. Nowadays, it houses the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate of the Romanian Parliament and various museums.
  • Just 40 km north of Bucharest, Snagov commune is a popular resort with quaint houses and a beautiful lake perfect for walking and recreation. But what is most impressive to visitors is the little island in the middle of the lake, where, according to legend, Dracula's grave is located.
  • One of the most beautiful castles in the world - the famous Peleș - is located in the heart of the Carpathian Mountains, near the town of Sinaia. Once the summer retreat of King Carol I, it is impressive for its huge collection of art works, imposing rooms, its gardens, and the two elegant towers.

Discovering Romania

Rugged mountains, endless valleys and picturesque towns. The Romanian countryside has many natural treasures worth exploring.

  • About 140 km north of Bucharest, in the heart of Transylvania, is charming Brasov, one of the most popular destinations in Romania, particularly for ski lovers. Nestled in the arms of three mountains, it is considered one of the best-preserved medieval towns in Europe.
  • Nothing prepares visitors for the fact that charming Sighișoara with the colourful houses, narrow lanes and imposing citadel is where Vlad Țepeș, the bloodthirsty prince who would become known as Dracula, was born.
  • The most westernised city of Romania, Timișoara lies near the border with Serbia and is impressive with its art nouveau buildings, wide boulevards and two spacious squares.
  • As for the real Dracula's castle, that is located in the southern Carpathians. It is the imposing Poenari Castle, an intimidating stone eagle's nest perched over the canyon formed by the River Argeș and which Vlad used as a hideout.

If you enjoy winter sports, the excellent Carpathian ski pistes will enthral you. But even in spring, you will appreciate the stately mountains that inspired one of the most exciting and horrifying stories of all ages. Book your tickets with Aegean Airlines to land at your destination with comfort and in the mood for adventure.
