Castle of Prague: dominating the cityscape since the 9th century, like something out of a fairytale. Mala Strana: the most charming district in Prague, at the foot of the castle on the left bank of the Moldava River. A mosaic of quaint narrow streets, Baroque buildings like the lovely church of Saint Nicholas, squares, gardens, small shops and atmospheric restaurants.

Golden Lane: The most photographed street in the Castle of Prague with the colourful doll-like houses. In the 16th century, the alchemists of the palace holed up in these little houses to discover the magic recipe for making gold.

Charles Bridge: the largest stone bridge in Central Europe connects Old Town (Stare Mesto) with Lesser Town (Mala Strana). Suspended over the waters of the Moldava River, with 30 sculptures arranged along its length, this is one promenade that should not be missed. Construction began in 1357 and was completed in the 15th century. Look for the gold cross in the middle of the bridge. According to local lore, if you touch it and make a wish, you will return to Prague some day.

Stare Mesto Square: the heart of Prague's Old Town. Acrobats, jugglers, violinists, outdoor painters and tourists are all part of this impromptu street party centred on the square. Take a look at the Baroque church of Saint Nicholas and the twin Gothic spires of the church of Týn. Another Prague landmark is the Gothic astronomical clock in the tower of the old Town Hall. Don't miss the spectacle when it strikes the hour: the metal figurines of the Twelve Apostles pop out of the clock every hour on the hour, as they have done since 1410. 
 
Franz Kafka Museum: visit the museum dedicated to one of the greatest writers of the 20th century, born and raised in Prague. Manuscripts, audiovisual materials and the author's letters are housed in a graceful Renaissance building in Mala Strana where Kafka lived out his life and was inspired to write The Trial and The Metamorphosis.

Alphonse Mucha Museum: visit the Baroque mansion in the centre of Prague and admire the ethereal women depicted by the Czech art nouveau artist in the surreal posters of the late 19th century.

Dancing House: an impressive avant garde building in Nove Mesto, the New Town of Prague, designed by famous architects Vlado Milunić and Frank O. Gehry. It earned its name because it resembles a dancing couple. On the top floor of this office building, you will find a charming restaurant overlooking the entire city and the Moldava River.

Jewish Quarter: visit the Jewish Museum, the synagogues and the Old Jewish cemetery in Josefov, the old Jewish quarter. 

Karlovy Vary: it is certainly worth taking a short trip to charming Karlovy Vary, or Carlsbad, 128 km from Prague. The oldest spa in the Czech Republic, with 12 natural hot springs and the air of a Belle Époque city, it has always been a magnet for celebrities, from Beethoven and Chopin to Goethe and Marx. Hot geysers gush forth in neoclassical peristyles in this retro city of luxury spa hotels, Renaissance and Baroque buildings and shops selling hallmark Bohemia crystal.

You are in Bohemia, the source of the renowned crystals, elegant tableware and crystal creations with 18th century motifs that you can find in many glass boutiques and artists studios in Mala Strana. You can also buy handmade Czech marionettes and get an authentic taste of the everyday life of the Czechs at the Havelska open-air market, a pot-pourri of fresh fruit, vegetables, flowers and traditional toys.

Stroll along Pařížská Street with its Parisian air that connects the square of Old Town with the Čechův Bridge. The city's most expensive stores, particularly high-end fashion boutiques and jewellery stores, are concentrated here in the elegant art nouveau buildings along the length of the street. The New Town's commercial pulse beats along both sides of the boulevard stretching from Wenceslas Square, once the site of political demonstrations and gatherings. On Na Příkopě Street, at the bottom of Wenceslas, you will find shopping centres with eateries and cinemas.

Generous and unique, Czech cuisine is largely based on meat and vegetables. You will find that at many restaurants in Mala Strana, the décor often steals the show from the menu offerings. For example, you can sample a delicious gulaš at a restaurant housed in an old basement cellar, or try the classic Czech bramboracka potato soup in the atmospheric rooms of a Baroque mansion.

Discover the secrets of well-brewed pilsner beer in the barrel at the beer houses and pubs of Prague with a centuries-old tradition in beer-making dating back to the Middle Ages. 

Relax with a drink at the city's revolving bar in an Art Deco setting, settled on the sofas of a lounge bar, or don an isothermal suit to join patrons at a hangout made entirely of ice. Taste the wines of the local vineyards at one of the atmospheric wine bars in the historic centre, and the dynamically emerging Karlín quarter, where some of the most fashionable gathering places of Prague are located. 
The city grooves to jazz rhythms at the funky hangouts in Mala Strana. • Prague Spring International Music Festival Ninety orchestras, soloists and chamber music ensembles from all over the world perform concerts of classical music in various unique venues in Prague. This historic institution, which has been around for seven decades, fills the city with celestial melodies every year, from mid-May through early June. 
• Summer Shakespeare Festival More than 140 performances of the Bard's work are staged every year in the Castle of Prague as part of this renowned festival established by the intellectual leader and first President of the Czech Republic, Václav Havel. 
• Czech Beer Festival The city showcases its long tradition in beer-making with this 15-day celebration held in Letná Park. More than 100 types of beer made by both small and large Bohemia brewers parade through here, along with the essential finger foods from the best restaurants in Prague. The event is rounded out with musical performances and folk dancing events.
• Stare Mesto Easter Market Over Easter, the central square in Old Town fills up with small kiosks where you will find hand-decorated Easter eggs, lace work and handmade decorative items.
• Magnetic Festival For one night in May, the PVA exhibition centre in Prague is transformed into a vast dance floor where fans of electronic music go wild to the synthesized music of Czech and international bands.

Transportation from the airport

Aegean Airlines lands at Václav Havel International Airport in Prague, located 10 km west of the city. This major airport features cafés, restaurants with Czech and international cuisine, banks, free Wi-Fi and many unique ways to pass the time, such as relaxation and entertainment zones, a tour of the airport, or even special podiums for those who enjoy plane spotting.

To get from the airport to the city, you can use one of the urban bus lines, 100, 119 and 179. Alternatively, you can use the Airport Express bus that connects the airport to Prague's central railway station. Taxis are also a good option and their prices are reasonable.
